Mark Coeckelbergh is a leading international philosopher of technology and a widely recognized expert on the ethics of artificial intelligence and robotics.

He is Professor of Philosophy of Media and Technology at the University of Vienna and serves as Circle U Chair for Artificial Intelligence. He also holds the ERA Chair at the Institute of Philosophy of the Czech Academy of Sciences, where he leads the Center of Environmental and Technology Ethics. He is a member of the United Nation’s Independent International Scientific Panel on AI. Previously he held academic and leadership roles across Europe and beyond, including Vice Dean in Vienna, Managing Director of the 3TU.Centre for Ethics and Technology, and President of the Society for Philosophy and Technology.

Coeckelbergh is the author of numerous influential publications (H index 66) including AI Ethics, Introduction to Philosophy of Technology, The Political Philosophy of AI, and Why AI Undermines Democracy and What To Do About It. His recent books are translated in many languages. He regularly advises policymakers and international organizations, including the European Commission (High-Level Expert Group on AI), the Austrian UNESCO Commission, the Austrian Council on Robotics and AI, and the Belgian Federal Advisory Committee on Data and AI.
